DEG
DEG, member of KfW Bankengruppe (KfW banking group), has been financing and structuring the investments of private enterprises in developing and transition countries for more than 40 years. DEG is one of the largest European development finance institutions for the promotion of the private sector. DEG promotes private enterprises in developing and transition countries as a contribution to sustainable growth and a lasting improvement in the living conditions of the local population. Therefore, we provide long-term capital for private enterprises investing in those countries.
We only take on commitments in projects that have an effective impact on development, meet environmental standards and comply with social principles. We are particularly committed to our developmental mandate and our guidelines for social and environmental compatibility: they form the decisive frame of our work.
Food business such as aquaculture or agro food plays a major role in the economy of developing countries. For decades DEG has been committed to this sector. DEG finances and advises local companies in developing countries who wish to cultivate and process food products for the domestic and foreign market and German and international companies who are represented in developing countries or wish to extend their presence there.
DEG manages BMZ funds for cooperation with private enterprises. Under the Public Private Partnership Programme (PPP), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) provides funds for projects on sustainable economic development. The ‘happy-shrimp’ project in Bangladesh is supported through PPP funding.
